The fifth taste
With a focus
on taste
Umami, also known as the fifth taste, was discovered in 1907 but not acknowledged before 2002. This flavour is known as rich and complex and differs from the other with its abundance.

Umami was established in January 2011 and is run by the two chefs Sigrid Rafaelsen and Kim-Håvard Larsen. They have both been working in some of the best restaurants in Norway and wanted to make a new and different restaurant in Harstad. The restaurant still keeps on growing and every member of our staff strives to give our guests an unforgettable experience.

Umami was in 2017 rewarded Very Fine Level by The White Guide Nordic and known as the best restaurant in Northern Norway.
